Keana represents MANUTAHI with her entry in the Ms. Heiva competition at the Heiva I Oahu 2003 Fete. Her talent was dancing the Vahine Maohi aparima. Love her hip band! By the way, she wins!
During MANUTAHI's visit to Tahiti, we were invited to do an exhibition performance at the local church for the island of Tahaa's version of the Heiva. Here, Pola dances our translation of Fenua's Vahine Maohi.
Part 2 of MANUTAHI's homage to Pe're. 3rd Place, San Jose Tahiti Fete 2006. The story of Pe're's voyage from Tahiti to Hawai'i. In this story, there is the innocent Pe're in white pareu and the a scorned Pe're in black pareu. The other 2 dancers came out as fireballs spitting out of the volcano.
Our second day in Tahiti, we flew from Papeete to Raiatea. We visited the Taputapuatea Marae on the island and paid our respects and brought sacrifice from Oahu and Maui. Here Ko'i asks for permission to enter and chants our respects in Hawaiian.
Darlene's 1st solo competition, on the left in black and white, at the Hilo Fete 2007 in the 35-49 age category and repping MANUTAHI. Great job for her first time!
This is funny! Footage taken during our trip around the island of Tahaa on our second day there. The leaders of MANUTAHI aren't always so serious! Especially Aunty Pola!
The local church in Tahaa, Tahiti wanted Pola and Tara to do solos, but some local tane wanted to dance with them instead. We all had a wonderful time at this event.
Part 2 of our visit to Taputapuatea on Raiatea, Tahiti. Here Ko'i gives us a history lesson...and the Iwa birds are flying above us, forming the Polynesian triangle. Fitting, since we brought sand to sacrifice from Hale'iwa. Being here gave me chicken skin.
Part 2 of our Ahuroa at Heiva I Oahu 2004, about the tavake and how it brings peace and love. 1st place ahuroa. "Tavake Te Manu" original composition by Tom Mariteragi and Pola Teriipaia.
The Tamaraa went on until the wee hours of the night...with Toto Suka's singing and ukelele...and having Belinda and Pola dance to his rendition of Tahiti Tahiti. We are cracking up in the background!
We all look hashed, but we just all woke up from a nap after leaving Papeete early in the am and flying to Raiatea. We stayed at the Hinano Hotel in Uturoa and the closest place to buy food was the grocery store. We were saving our appetite for Steak Frites after our visit to Taputapuatea.
