This is the second time chet recorded this tune..this time with anoth guitar great.
If your ears are not used to those jazz chords, they may sound a little funny to you. But once you get accustomed to them, it's a feast for the ears!
Chet recorded a couple versions of this pretty tune...I'll post the other one later.
This one is my favorite...the simplicity of the melody gives no hint as to how hard this Chet arrangement is to play well..I know I spent years trying!
Tennessee stud was long and lean, the color of the sun and his eyes were green" Man with great lyrics like that, no wonder this tune was such a great hit for Eddy Arnold!
Well, Chet and Jerry took it and really made it sound ultra cool! They were both in their prime, and Jerry was especially in the groove on this great cut!
this song is very beloved by millions of people..now listen what happens when a master takes it and makes it even more beautiful than you can imagine...
Chet was so good with that guitar, that he could almost paint a picture with those strings. Just listen to this cut of Wabash Cannonball, and close your eyes. you can SEE the old train rumbling down the tracks, black smoke billowing from the smokestack...
Imagine Chet and Merle sittin' around on the front porch swing on a hot southern summer day, reminiscing and pickin' old country licks...that's the tone picture you get from this great cut. No flashy pickin here...just good ol' country licks...
As layed back as a a glass of iced tea on a hot country summer day...
I am grateful for a wonderful friend on the Chetboard for sharing this track with me, and was very excited about posting it here!
Here, Chet does some beautiful fills as a guest of Carman, the gospel singer...
I'd say Carman was blessed!
Enjoy!
