This is my tribute to the amazing Brasilian musician Egberto Gismonti, who is one of all time favourites. This tune is called 'Agua & Vinho', and is from his wonderful solo piano album 'Alma'. I have tried to do something a little bit different than what Egberto does to it.
My rendition of Summertime with a funky bluesy flavour.
For such a long time I have really hated this tune, the psychological scars of way too many winebar gigs probably, but now I have rediscovered it, and like it again.
Onwards with my Wayne Shorter obsession, I give you 'Black Nile' from the 1964 album Night Dreamer.
It is amazing that 44 years later Wayne is still making cutting edge music.
Round MIdnight, such a classic tune, and one that has been recorded by almost every jazz musician. Here's my version...
In case you are wondering this is mainly improvised (after the head at least). I have some music up but this is just to remind me of the reharmonization for the last head - I use some changes from the amazing Hermerto Pascoal here.
Hope you enjoy.
Standards in different timings, its good practice and pretty hard, but good fun.
I had to make my own backing for this one. A special thanks to Shaun and Milo for the drums and percussion, and I played bass myself.
Wayne Shorter's classic tune Fee Fo Fi Fum, from the essential 'Speak no evil' album.
Hope you enjoy it half as much as I enjoyed playing it.
Thanks to lot2learn who inspired me to play this fabulous tune.
I just transcribed this great tune the other day from the new solo piano album by Stephano Bollani, who is one of the best younger players on the European scene and one of my favourites ever since I saw him play a solo gig last year in London.
The improvisation and mistakes are all mine though.
Bobby Hutcherson's tune Little B's Poem, which I just learnt today.
A special thanks to lot2learn for turning me on to this great tune..
And a happy new year to one and all
Just had my piano tuned so I thought I would play something a bit sonorous to make the most of it.
This is one of the saddest preludes and is in the key of Bb minor.
I did a reharmonization of the tune and then played a solo over some fretless bass I had laid down earlier.
Sorry about all the bird noises - the starlings were going mental just outside the window.
This tune was written in 1931 by Victor Young
