Ashokan Farewell, the Jay Ungar tune at a concert in Wilnecote. Neal prefers the irish airs elsewhere on this account; I have to cooerce (or bribe!) him to play Ashokan Farewell. Ashokan Farewell sounds very like an old irish air.
Accidental Busking with Sean O Donnell. They were playing for fun, but some Fleadh visitors helped towards Neals next set of strings! Off to California/Denis Murphys. Playing in the street during a lull at the Tullamore Fleadh in Aug 07. Sean is a box player from USA. Both lads were on their first visit to Ireland.
Neal playing at the opening night of Bedworth Folk Festival in Nov 07. Thanks to George Van Ristell for providing the guitar accompaniment. The second tune is "Gravel Walk"
A lovely irish slow air based on a sean nos song, learnt partly from the playing of Brian Patton. Neal is playing unrehearsed at warwick Folk Festival with George a local guitarist.
Members of South Birmingham and Coventry Comhaltas at one of the evening tune learning sessions (with an american). The sound is not great, but this gives an idea of what Scoil Eigse is about.
part of a 5 hour session at the Zetland Arms during Warwick Folk Festival. Farewell to Ireland, Gravel Walks, Star of Munster. Icluded several musicians playing in bands at the fesival.
Fancied a go at Banjo. Thanks to Tom Bracken at Coventry CCE for loan. This is four days after getting it. Fingering is same as for fiddle which makes it a bit easier. Still need to master pick rather than finger ornamentation though.
Sean Cannon playing with members of Coventry Comhaltas on New Years Day at the Hearshall Inn, Craven Street,Coventry. You can hear Neal's violin all the way through. Isnt it nice to see an acknowledged star of Irish music playing for fun in his hometown straight after two nights at Vicar Street. He drops in regularly to the session to sing a couple of songs and play banjo.
