Industrious female chickadee building a nest in the Help-for-Bluebirds.o rg Mark I Mod 0 Internet nest camera box.
I had hoped the bluebird couple that were checking the box would move in but the chickadees beat them to it.
Movie clip of a male Eastern bluebird purloining nesting material from a chickadee nest still under construction. Apparently the male bluebird is trying to entice his mate to build a nest in a nearby vacant nest box by depositing the purloined material in it. The female bluebird stops by the nest box and peeks in but hasn't selected it yet.
The five chickadee nestlings are on the verge of fledging. Mother Chickadee is trying to keep them fed and in the nest until it is time for them to fledge.
It took a little encouragement from one of the Chickadee parents, but the last Chickadee fledged successfully this morning. All five chickadees are now out in the world and being shown how to eat and drink by their parents.
In hot humid weather, green mold can easily form in the bottoms of your birdbaths. You should monitor birdbaths frequently for green mold and clean them immediately. I recommend using Clorox Cleanup and paper towels. Be sure to rinse out the birdbaths thoroughly with fresh water before you refill them.
Great Crested Flycatcher (GCF) nest that was built in our Red-bellied Woodpecker nest box standing 20' above ground. This is the first year that we have had GCFs nest in our yard. The nest was made of pine straw and dried leaves. The GCFs layered their nest on top of the pine shavings that were in the box. Notice there is no "cup" to the nest.
Get your breakfast ready and then put out some mealworms. You and your bluebirds can have breakfast together. You can eat and watch them eat through the kitchen window.

The female House Wren is still hard at work on the nest. She is weaving the twigs so the nest will remain intact for the nestlings. The nest still needs to be lined.
Mother Chickadee has her hands full tending to the five very active nestlings. They are becoming more active every day. You can see they are starting to look like Chickadees.
Be sure to put out mealworms in a place you can observe bluebirds up close and personal. "Bluie" stops by and helps himself to mealworms on a regular basis.
The Great Crested Flycatcher nesting in our Red-bellied woodpecker house is pausing for a breath of fresh air. It is very hot today -- around 100 degrees Fahrenheit.
A Great Crested Flycatcher nestling is almost ready to fledge. The parents are trying to coax it out of the nest box by feeding it from the outside. The nestlings is spending much of its time observing the world from the entrance hole.
