Consists of two scanworlds that took 15 minutes each to produce. Particularly nice in demonstrating why mid range laser scanning is good for stadium scanning. Only regret was we didn't have time to scan the inscriptions located in the right hand corner. Thanks to Prof. Robert Van Der Noort and Lord Rothchild
Done when Time Team came down for their final episode, 2006 -2007 season. Trench shows what was thought to be a stone circle but was actually a stone building or structure. Dated to the Bronze Age, if memory serves me correctly. SSSI site, so it was nice to get data while the shallow trench was open.
Butrint, Albania, 2007. High Definition Survey of the Mosaic located in the Baptistry. The patterns on the surface represented a three tier assent to heaven (tied to the holy trinity and all that jazz), with the peacocks in the picture showing an association with paradise. Thanks to Prof. Robert Van Der Noort and Lord Rothchild
3rd Century Baptistry, with accompanying mosaic (see other link) showing three tiered accent to heaven culminating in the centre of the font. The pillars represent an attempt to Italianisation the site by Mussolini in the 1920's. Thanks to Prof. Robert Van Der Noort and Lord Rothchild
The Bassett Monument was dedicated to the Bassett Family in 1836. The Bassett's were a wealthy mine owning family and the monument is a giant cornish cross set on top of Carn Brae, Cornwall.
The job represents the first time I had used the scanner. Thank you to Andy Wetherelt for kick starting my career in High Definition Survey.
I thought it would be fun to do a quick reconstruction of what the Italian's wanted the baptistry to look like in order to show a dominant Roman presence. Good old Mussolini - at least he's dead.
Over a four day period Andy and I scanned the South West House, Eastern Terrace and Throne Room as part of Colin McDonald's reevaluation of Knossos. Highlights include detection of reflective volcanic based materials in conservation cement and further testing of resolution settings on mason marks.
