This is a video made in 1938 showing the Great yoga teacher demonstrating asana and pranyama. He was the teacher of BKS Iyengar and Sri K. Pattahbi Jois, founder the Astanga style of yoga. The film is so old that any claim to copyright has expired.
This is from the same 1938 newsreel that shows Krishnamacharya demonstrating yoga. Here we see a young Iyengar (still alive, well, and doing yoga, BTW) doing advanced poses that constitute the advanced A & B astanga series. This is obviously well before Iyengar dropped the vinyasa aspect from his practice and rebranded it as "Iyengar Yoga", putting greater emphasis on allignment.
Bu Harni, a wonderful woman dalang (shadow puppeteer) died mid March 2006. She was a formitable person and held her own in what is generally reguarded as a man's profession. Here is a bit of non-verbal puppetry that got a lot of laughs one night in Surakarta, Java nearly 20 years ago.
