Warning: This video is dedicated to my mother. So she could see how my braces were put on in China as opposed to the ultra-sterile and ultra-expensive way they're put on in the States. Another warning, this video contains extreme close-up shots of the inside of my mouth. I'm sorry, but it's not a pretty side. So take a seat in the Chinese dentist's chair...here we go. And cue The Nutcracker.
Here's my video I did for Fuller Theological Seminary with the help of wonderful musician Jennifer Terran, books by Iris Chang and Jung Chang, my students in China, and all the women I encountered along the way. Bless you. Thank you. This is but one perspective of China...
The most infamous place in China: a KTV. Everyone who's been knows about them; everyone who hasn't only dreams about them.
Here, my friends and I at a birthday party do a little international dance with people from Scotland, Poland, America, Russia and China. Everyone's having a good time. Some people...too good.
The second installment of Sunday night's show with the judges' nice (and not so nice) comments about me and Liu Jia. And the conclusion of this ridiculous saga. It's all here.
Although lack of time had cut the shooting time in half (we shot for about 9 minutes total) there was still some stuff to put together and so i decided to make it...in honor of her time spent on it.
In Guangzhou, China, our Easter visit to a nearby park/mountain gave me the chance to bungee jump. After signing a confidentiality statement, getting weighed in, and taking my blood pressure, I was ready to jump. It can't be this easy in the U.S., so I thought China would be a better place to try this out. And at only $18, the price was right. Thank you, Shadd & Brittany. :)
Another, more intense glimpse into the real KTV in China. This one examines the horrible, out-of-date and tacky stock footage (Communist-friendly, of course though) that accompanies nearly every English song you can choose to sing. Get ready for the cheese fest.
The 2000 Glitter Talent show of Gull Lake High School. The lip sync in this video is not so great but just look at the moves. Blake, Chase, Troy, Joel and Me are all starring.
For the 25 year old generation who grew up with "The Little Mermaid" as the first best Disney film of four-in-a-row. For the bosom buddies (Tiffany, Brittany & Melanie) of South Carolina. For my family for letting me be so melodramatic, exaggerating as much as I could in my childhood. For anyone else who danced and lip sync'd to Disney songs as a child...this...is for you.
At Sanford Farms, in Detroit, Michigan when I was 6 years old...this is me singing the song "David." I dedicate this to Jodi and her family, the best nanny any family could ever ask for. It was long ago, forgive me.....
2005. Thanksgiving Day. My first Thanksgiving outside of America with some foreign teachers and foreign friends in a small, little apartment in Linyi City, Shandong, China. Although we didn't know each other well, it was a special, odd, unique gathering.
