Alexander Porfir'yevich Borodin (1833-1887) was one of the so-called Russian Mighty Handful. His output was very small, principally because music was his hobby rather than his profession (he was a research chemist). This evocative tone poem is meant to depict a caravan crossing the desert. It is performed here by The Ukraine National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Theodore Kuchar.
