A practical example of how the Behringer Ultragain Pro MIC2200 (cheap) + Joe Meek Twin Q (more expensive) can sound when recording.
Both are great units and have their positives and negatives.
You can get a great sound from the Behringer.
You can get a great sound from the Joe Meek.

Brief test of extremely cheap Behringer Tube Mic pre-amp...cheap but it works well...I try to record using the M-Audio gain instead, and ended up with less harmonically-rich sound...
mic:Audio-Technic a (small capsule condenser) ATM-11
soundcard:M-Audio FastTrack pro (usb)
you can really have a real tube pre nowadays with very few bucks...worth the price...

ok...one advice:I'm not a bassist...I know it's clear (I'm only a 'guitar user')...I use bass only for home recording purposes (wish in the future to use it a little more)...I think that the Behringer tube preamp is cool also for recording bass direct, don't you think so ? (bass purists keep away)...
and better than some DI boxes...
