why is religion so widely followed? is it really because so many people have faith in a particular religion? or is it merely because of the threat of punishment?

i remembered where i saw something on this subject it was george carlin in a comedy bit years ago but it is a great point and i'm sure i did'nt put it as eloquently as mr carlin.

had some thoughts today after watching a few vids on youtube. if your a christian you might find this mildly immflamatory.
