When I get frustrated (musically, that is), I force myself to just sit and play. I've been bored with myself musically lately (still am..oh well ! ;) but people also ask about my right hand, so I figured I'd mess around over some harmonics and capture it with my webcam for youtube. Warts-n-all!
Damian Erskine gives some tips about using 5ths on the bass to get around the neck. (My deepest apologies for calling the A an 11th in CMajor... it's the 13th !! Trying to think and play at the same time never works for me! ;)
Working on my thumb technique, so I recorded myself playing around. Came up with a little line to challenge my thumb, index and middle fingers. Warts and all, tho! Definitely not perfect and it's not a real tune, mostly taking the riff and making something up as I go along..
Whenever I work on a technique, I try and invent lines to challenge that technique. Here's one I came up with to work a three finger percussive thing...
Bass solo at a local gig here in Portland with John Nastos, Drew Shoals and Clay Giberson. Not the best in the world, but I promised to start uploading more stuff as I get it! here's something anyway ;)
groove I came up with whilst messing around (I never practice... I just noodle. A disease I'm trying to cure!) Once again, loop the chords, play around with it, upload.... Maybe I should try and write a tune! (HA)
latin vibe on this one. Klezmer band, tho.. My wife got this with the camera, but it looks ok, sounds ok.. missed the first chorus, tho (I swear, I didn't play that fast the WHOLE time ;)
Been a while... messing with a chord progression in the morning and figured I'd pull out the camera and loop it, play over it. Rinse, repeat... Been inspired listening to Janek Gwizdala's live CD lately, so there may be a tad of that in here, too.
