It's always nice to see scenes of Washington DC from when I was young!! This is one of the most optimistic songs that I know of, it came on the radio immediately after a girl I was dating 30 years ago slammed my car door and stalked-off, perfect timing because the lyrics made that situation all clear to me!! I never called that girl again...
Soupy doing "The Mouse"!! At first I was gonna edit this post down to just the song, but I decided to leave the whole segment intact, since I found it interesting watching Soupy stall/ad-lib while someone was apparently cueing-up the record!!
I'll always remember Soupy's line, "Be true to your teeth, or they'll be false to you"...
James didn't do too many lip synchs on music TV shows (he and Aretha Franklin were not very convincing when trying to mimic their own recordings), but here's one!! I went away while recording this to get some Breyers Vanilla Bean ice cream, and so the Dippity-Do commercial got recorded by accident, but I left it on anyway...
James gets to do one of his signature songs, with cape and all. I don't think the song needed to be longer, but I can't say the same about James' pants...
OK, first the actual proper song titles are "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" and "I Got You (I Feel Good)", but all that wouldn't fit in the short title line!! And James was notorious for not being able to do lip synchs, but he does pretty good on both of these!! His options were limited, considering he had no band with him!! I'm proud, James!!
What a fun song, and I'm very impressed with how well Toyah swirls and dances on a slippery-looking surface in those high heels!! I also thought the late Kenny Everett was one of the funniest, most clever radio DJs of all time!! I miss the days of good music played by good DJs...
I'm just wondering why Redd is driving at such a high rate of speed, in the snow with a six-pack of malt liquor to deliver to a guy sitting in a chair?!? But then, maybe I'm putting way too much thought into this scenario??!! It IS a completely unique experience!!
Never saw a proper music video or lip-synch for this song, and that's a shame. I like this performance, though I'd prefer the ballroom dance feel of the original hit version to this Dixieland-flavored version. Hey, I like what I like...
Beaver celebrates a dog's 1st birthday by giving Purina Dog Chow as a gift!! And we all know how nice it is to get a gift that we really can use!! Dogs tend to like food a bit more than dog sweaters, collars and even frisbees...
Dennis and (the original) Mr. Wilson eat Skippy Peanut Butter!! Be careful eating behind Dennis Mitchell, since he has the crackers and the peanut butter lid laying right on the ground in this odd-length 1:12 second commercial!!
I guess it was a win/win situation: People get to dress-up their dogs like fools in exchange for giving them nice dog food with meat by-products?!?
...Do prime-time network television programs get sponsored by dog food anymore??!!?? I was just wondering?? And hey, that announcer sounds like my favorite announcer voice, who has the strength of 20 atom bombs for a period of 20 seconds...
The Cookie Monster shows us (for some strange reason) that he is capable of eating more than just cookies?!? That's all good, since so much of what he tries to eat seems to fall out his mouth anyways...
I feel kinda old, since as a record collector I still use my record player (I even used it today)!! Fred and Barney sure play some weird records!! Wow!!!
